We are now a day from raising the Azores and once again we must roll our
clocks ahead by one hour. This is the equivalent of jet lag mixed with a
healthy dose of Chinese water torture. The librarian replacing me in
Dublin has it made since he will mostly have to set his clocks back for
additional sleep – I also know he’s been following this blog so :P to
Richard. ;) To make matters worse, we believe that all of the ship’s
emails are going out and being received, but we haven’t received a packet
all day.
Anyway, today was our first Sunday at Sea which means we had a barbeque
for lunch and dinner. Probably four pigs and two cows died for me so I
can gut load myself on their genetically twisted flesh… It was delicious.
So the students have off for Sunday at Sea which means there is much
leisure activity aboard the good ship “Empire State VI.” This includes
people sunning themselves on the deck, and playing games such as dominos
and football (on their PS3’s). The students are definitely getting
antsy to hit the first port and many of my visitors (which is well over
100 per day now by my latest count) want port information and things to
do.
As for me – I am working, though I could really do with a day off. I
can’t wait to get to shore. I believe the librarian last year had said at
some point, the ocean is really beautiful to look at, but when you look at
it day after day after day it gets dull. It is also a bit like a
“Groundhog’s Day” phenomenon since there seems to be no division of time
or space for that matter. It is just an endless ocean that goes on and
on. The only reason why I know I am writing this on Sunday is because my
calendar says it is Sunday, nothing in my schedule would tell me it is
Sunday otherwise.
That's all for tonight!
Fair Winds and Following Seas,
Joe

Hey Joe, you certainly have a way with words. Any news on the stop in Greece or will it be Croatia or another port. 5 more days for you and then hopefully your legs won't be too wobbly to stand on solid ground. Keep the blogs coming
ReplyDeleteWhat. . . .no shuffleboard on deck!
ReplyDeleteOh man Joe, my surfing paid off this morning! I found your blog. IDK how we'd get along without the Librarian's Blog. Keep it up. You're going to have many followers ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for blogging, with the e-mail difficulties we hear very little if anything form the kidlings.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, please keep writing from the ship! Get your friends to add on.. we, parents, appreciate hearing from you all! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Geisel....
To respond to Linda...
ReplyDelete"The cruise is still on for Greece -- there is apparently some major
international shipping expo going on in Piraeus (the port of Athens) that
they really want to attend. The way we are going to go is very
interesting as well as one of the Deck Officers was going over with me the
route. I'll describe that in the next blog post."
To Ira:
"The cadets do enough scrubbing on deck that I don't think that
shuffleboard would be considered fun."
Thanks Joe! Delighted to hear they will still be sailing for Athens! I know the Cadets are going to love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping us up to date!
